AbstractThis webinar aims to describe the technical, geographical and economic environment as well as legal issues of the construction of offshore structures. We will recall the challenges and production capacities of deep offshore since 1950. The webinar will also briefly present the genesis of hydrocarbons and the large production basins as well as changes in demand and consumption. We will also present the main technologies for exceeding 1000 m of water depth. Finally, the development of new technologies has revealed a growing need for rare metals. Land resources are limited and some offshore deposits have been detected. We will present the legal issues of the exploitation of these deposits. We will also make the link with theme # 5 in order to understand how these technological challenges could have been used for MRE.
